Fresco, detail, 1970, Church of Dan Genesio, Albazzano, Parma, Italy

ALBAZZANO FRESCO

To my Mother, her Son

The church of San Genesio in Albazzano, a small village near Tizzano on the hills of Parma, is a typical example of the restlessness that Madoi was showing every time he was feeling in the mood of saying something, of seeing something lost back in his memories.
This was an important place, a place he sensed some 40 years before, a place where the worst and the best of his life were taken place, simultaneously.
He was no more than a boy when in 1944 he was fighting as a partisan on those hills and when in those days and in those places he met the love of his entire life, Isabella.
Going back to these memories, one day in 1970, he left a message, painted on a wall of this off hand little church as a remind of those times.
